Used Ping Pong Table Cleaning Tips
Ping-pong tables get messy easily, but a used ping-pong table especially needs much more TLC (tender loving care) for it to make it by the time your toddler attends college.
If you do not have such far-sighted future plans for the table, you still need to maintain it in a fabulous condition so that the bounce of your ball never gets affected!
Here are some great cleaning tips that will leave your precious table gleaming in no time and, no, wiping off with a damp cloth or an old rag does not constitute cleaning:
The Table Cleaning Process
1 Natural or Homemade cleaners – Remove the net from the table gently and work out the areas that need detailed and urgent cleaning – trust me – after a few games only, dust and grime finds valuable space in every nook and cranny of a table.
Blend together a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of water and dip a clean, soft (not ragged) washcloth. Wipe off the table top and use the same mix for the legs and paddles as well.
2 Ping-Pong Cleaners – Available at any sports equipment store, a ping-pong cleaner does an effective job grinding out all the infectious dust on your table. It’s easy to use and is highly recommended for serious game players.
3 All-purpose cleaning agents - Disinfectant cleaners or the regular store-bought ones also do the essential cleaning required but at the cost of abrasion to your table paint and even the wood!
The harsh chemicals present in these adversely affect the quality of the wood in the long run.
Instead of bothering with such a headache, make your own water and vinegar combo or buy a special ping-pong cleaner.
After all, your used ping-pong table needs a lot more upkeep than a new one.
4 Vacuum cleaner trick –
Before using a liquid cleaner, try vacuuming the table from top to bottom; it’s a great way to suck out all the dirt and makes the second step of the wiping off part much more effective. This will even make your game bounce better!
Consider using a good wood sealant on the top and bottom of the table once you’re done with the cleaning, to keep it save from the moisture and make it last that much longer.
The Net Cleaning Process
Hose off the net first to get rid of the dust settled on it.
Second step would be taking a sharp pair of scissors and cutting off the stray strings carefully.
Now, dip the net in the earlier prepared vinegar and water mixture and let it soak for awhile. Remove, rinse and let it dry off.
Enjoy your used ping-pong table that looks as good as new with a thorough cleaning session.
Tip – Cover it properly to ensure no dust/dirt creeps in while you are not using it.
