Why the NOOK Will Overtake the Kindle in the EReader War
The Kindle by Amazon is the best-selling eReader on the market today, but for how long is the question. The NOOK manufactured by Barnes & Noble is a new reader that is aligned in direct competition to the Kindle.
Will Amazon the largest online retailer or Barnes & Noble the largest physical book seller in the United States be the biggest eReader seller? The eReader market is very large and who will gain the most market share is still to be seen.
The NOOK like the Kindle offers Internet connectivity, internal book storage, wireless connectivity, a 3G version, plus many more features that the Kindle does not have. The NOOK for instance has the ability to use external memory to store even more books than the inboard memory allows. The NOOK also has a color touchscreen navigation bar while the Kindle uses a keypad. The biggest difference that the NOOK has over the Kindle is the amount of books they offer, the Kindle has over two and a half million titles compared to the Kindle that only has about eight-hundred thousand titles available.
To expand on the color touch-screen of the NOOK, it is used at the bottom of the eReader to display different titles and programs that are on your NOOK or that are available to purchase. The touchpad is easily uses a screen keyboard, this allows for easy searching of titles and much more.
Another great feature that the Kindle does not offer that the NOOK does feature is the ability to use the Wi-Fi at Barnes & Noble stores to preview books. Imagine you can actually go to Barnes & Noble have a coffee or tea and sample a few chapters of books that you are interested in. The Kindle on the other hand will likely never feature this benefit.
The only comparison that I can find from the NOOK vs Kindle debate that maybe in the advantage of the Kindle is the price. The NOOK is priced higher than the Kindle, it however is not a huge price difference. The NOOK retails for $149 and a 3G version for $199, the Kindle is priced ten dollars cheaper on each version, at $139 and $189 for the 3G Kindle version.
When deciding on what eReader to go for, please remember that the NOOK offers many more titles than the Kindle does. If you are a student, you should also be aware that the NOOK has many textbooks in eBook versions, this could save students hundreds of dollars in book fees.
