Automatic Dialer’s Voice Detection Technology
Voice detection ability is a key of automatic dialer’s technology.
Automatic dialer (automatic calling unit, auto-dialer) is a part of Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) technology. Autodialers broadcast information between any two points on the telephone, mobile phone or pager networks using a sophisticated software and a voice modem to dial a predetermined phone number's list. They announce recorded message or transmit digital data via SMS like system after establishing the call.
Some companies use them for annoying telemarketing campaigns. It can also be used for a different purpose such as a doctor's reminder to take a prescribed medicine, a school's alarm for unexpected events or appointment reminders.
Voice detection is the ability of the automatic dialer to make a difference between a human voice and an answering machine. It is not 100% accurate yet think about how many times you have started talking to a machine before realizing it. Answering machine detection's (AMD) basic component is a Stratasoft’s call detection algorithm. It includes three types of detection: Cadence, Frequency and Voice Detection. Cadence Detection provides information whether a signal is a No Ringtone, Answer, No Answer or Busy. Frequency Detection refers to the frequency gradient of the signal. Voice Detection identifies live or/and recorded human voice characteristics in the signal.
How does it work?
1. If the phone rings more than four times (about 25 seconds), it will assume the answering machine will respond to the call.
2. The software evaluates the first spoken words length and waits for a pause/post-greeting silence (short response burst of words (1-3 seconds) followed by a pause suggests a human).
3. The semi-automatic dialer can pass the call to a live operator. The advertisements accompanying telemarketing calls provide enough time for voice detection before passing the call to the operator. Automatic one plays a recorded message.
