Going green in electronics
Their goal to have this accomplished by 2009 has slipped by, but they are still taking the necessary steps.
Greenpeace has been grading all of the different computer and technological groups out there that produce our home computers, TVs, and other electronic devices. The two new laptops are NOT made from PVC. PVC is not recyclable, or biodegradable. Acer has taken this challenge head on using new materials not affecting the technological standpoints. The flame retardant, and tough outer skeleton is now ready to meet your standards. As the outer shell, is tough, and sleek looking, staying away from the the stigma of 'eco friendly colors', unlike other known competitors, they have chosen to stay with their signature look.
These new notebooks are green favorites, and require a lower voltage for power, saving energy.
After Acer offering a new era of eco-friendly computer products, there will be more manufacturers and top name brand products are to follow this trend.
The Acer Aspire 3811TZ and Aspire 3811TZG are considered to be earth friendly, and offer all of the things that any other 'general' laptop does, only Acer has gone a step ahead, and added more memory space, and allowing you to access the Intel Core 2 Duo. As exact specifications are yet to be released, these two 'mini' laptops are anything but minuet. As a small contributor to the Acer 'Timeline series', these two new computers also offer low voltage batteries with a life of eight hours at any given time.
Even with the approving nods of Greenpeace on the new products, they were only awarded a 4.5 out of 10 rating from this organization, leaving them for room for improvement. Based on a report released early in January, which can be found at http://www.greenpeace.org/international/press/reports/acer-guide-to-greener-electronics-14 you can find this information.
If you are in the market for a new computer or laptop and would like to 'go green' there are several places that can assist you in your search. Greenpeace has a site that will give you information on where different companies placed on their list at www.greenpeace.org/international/press/reports
As far as future endeavors for Acer, they have stated that this is just the beginning in a long line of new computers. In a press release on January 18th 2010 the represetantives for Acer acknowledged their gratitude for the stamp of approval from Greenpeace. Where also they are notes of comparison to the new Sony Vio eco which is a great competitor of the Acer.
