Skywatch telescope bared near-earth asteroids, NASA affirms

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) disclosed that the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) has already finished its first scan of the whole sky and is on to another round of image recording after it was launched in December 2009. It is expected that by the end of this year, WISE can provide the census of the millions of newly found cosmic objects that can possibly provide answers to questions on how planets, stars and galaxies are formed in the universe. ...

The world of science is boasting a new super-telescope, Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, better known as WISE, one of NASA’s newest toys to explore the milky way and beyond. In the past six months, WISE has identified 25,000 unknown asteroids lurking out in space, millions and millions miles away, but 95 have been identified as being close to Earth, at only 30 million miles away. In scientific terms, however, even 30 million miles, hard to imagine, is considered “near Earth.” ...
