Kettler Top Star XL and Its Assembly
Kettler is a company based in Germany that is arguably one of the best in the table-making industry. They launched Kettler Top Star XL just recently. Kettler Top Star XL is a completely weather resistant 7/8” aluminum top table which is perfectly suited for both indoor and outdoor play. The blue top is very attractive and has a quality surface finish. But the best feature of Kettler Top Star XL is that the total unit can be folded and packed into a compact 25” for storage. And then the dual caster system facilitates free rolling till a point where you can lock it in place with the pedal locks which are given.
The Kettler Top Star XL has both the net and the post system integrated together to stay intact even when the table is folded. The Safety Fold mechanism has been patented and is designed in a way which avoids the table from accidentally opening and injuring a person. Furthermore, the table is equipped with dual six-inch swiveling guide wheels, with an integrated brake to enhance the stability of the table during play. One half of the Kettler Top Star XL can be folded to facilitate single player practice. It has a certified tournament quality bounce because of the brilliant surface finish.
However, Kettler doesn’t live up to expectations with regards to the ease of assembly. The expected time of assembly, with the help of two adults, was around 2 hours. However, because of the poorly written assembly instructions, assembly is timed at around 6-8 hours as was reported, in spite of the client’s mechanical dexterity.
As a matter of fact, the Kettler Top Star XL is a one man assembly until the point where it is required to mount the first side onto its sliding leg mounts. Then you'll be required to flip the second side over from its crate to assemble the legs. This part of the assembly needs help. Especially, since each side weighs approximately a hundred pounds, they are very awkward to handle. So it is advised to have two-three people for help during the process of assembling the Kettler Top Star XL.
Though the marketing material claims that all the assembly tools are supplied, it is advised to have a hammer, a 1/2" wrench, a socket set, and a reasonable command over the metric system.
