Tuskegee Airmen-Red Tails-the Movie
George Lucas, the famous maker of Star Wars has been fascinated by the first fighting group of African American airmen ever in the history of the United States. The difficult situation in which the group was formed becomes clear if it is recalled that racial segregation in America only ended about forty years ago.
The country used Jim Crow laws to keep African American citizens out of the mainstream of American economic and social life. An immense struggle led by Martin Luther King Jr. using non-violence brought the country to the threshold of genuine equality no matter what the color, faith or creed of the citizen.
A great cast of actors will portray the lives of the Tuskegee Airmen. The movie features Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Terence Howard (Mr. Holland’s Opus), Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle), Tristan Wilds (90210), Singer Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley (28 Days) and Cliff Smith ( rapper Method Man).
George Lucas is taking pains to make the visuals as exciting as the real life of the pilots who were all in their 20s. The Tuskegee Airmen saw action in North Africa, Sicily and then as fighter support for bombers of the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy. They accompanied the bombers on air raids to Austria, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Czechoslovakia.
The Tuskegee Airmen used Curtiss P-40 Warhawks, Bell P-39 Airacobras, Republic P-47 Thunderbolts and finally the aircraft they are most associated with, the North American P-51 Mustang.
The director of the film is Anthony Hemingway famous for television series like ‘CSI: NY,’ ‘Treme’ and ‘True Blood.’ The movie will be released on Jan 20, 2012.
