The internet a boon against alcoholism?
This might come as a surprise and there might be many who would laugh at the idea that some recent reports claim that the internet and some programs might actually help alcoholics drink less!
These are basically computer and internet based interventions that researchers are using and have seen that they have been able to cut the usage of alcohol on the part of heavy drinkers, as much as two drinks every week. Of course all the studies that they conducted could not have reaped positive results, there were also those that did not turn out without limitations.
However, if this kind of a study ends with flying colors and interventions on the internet and through computer programs can actually help, then this is definitely great news as far as American are concerned. There are more than seventeen million people in the country who are alcoholics and are on a constant struggle against it.
If the trials work out and are actually made available for public use, then they will also be free for access as long as the users also have an access to the internet.
How much more effective this is going to be as compared to in-person intervention and with the help of doctors will only have to be time tested; although there are already plenty of advantages to such internet based interventions that are being talked about. The main advantages would be the ease and convenience, the free of cost advantage as well as privacy.
