'Pride and Prejudice' sold for 140,000 pounds at an Auction
Published in the 19th century, famous novel, Pride and Prejudice, had been a bestseller. Even today, there are millions of readers who can turn the pages of the romantic novel a lot many times.
One such lover of the novel had recently bought the original editions of Jane Austen's romantic novel after paying 139,250 pounds. The first edition of the novel was put on sale in an auction in Britain.
When the book was published for the first time in 1813, it was sold for 18 shillings. Apart from this edition, there were 148 volumes that were put for an auction. The sale was organized by an auction house Sotheby's, based at London.
First edition of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens was also put for the auction and was sold for 181,250 pounds. Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights” which was published first in 1847 was sold for 163,250 pounds.
William Shakespeare’s collection of poems published in the 17th century was sold for 135,250 pounds. Charles Darwin's "On The Origin Of The Species" was sold for 127,250 pounds.
