President Obama Sends A Message
He assured Americans that his intentions are good and he is committed to an economic recovery—the bone of contention that has so many voters down.
Obama has only been president for two years. It will more than likely take the two terms that he has the opportunity to oversee to implement all the changes that will make a difference.
At the beginning of his first term, the president began addressing measures he promised to deliver for all Americans. He addressed health care and took on the powerful banking industry by passing legislation, affecting both industries for future generations.
So to abandon a president who seemingly has the American people as a priority now so early into his first term does not bode well for voter loyalty. To turn over the Senate to a Republican majority at this point in time can be disastrous for Democrats, as President Obama pointed out while reaching out to voters Monday.
On the other side of the coin, people are discouraged. Jobs have been lost, lucrative jobs that gave people stability. Now folks are wondering how they are going to put food on the table, let alone save for the future. Most worrisome is that there are too many people in the work force to fill all the available positions.
People who are willing and capable of filling a job position are up against hundreds, maybe even thousands, of others just as capable. Competition is fierce. In the meantime jobs continue to go by the wayside.
The government talks of a recovery but the word recovery is premature, especially when there are still so many out of work. Lost were jobs that far exceeded a poverty level income. Jobs ranging anywhere from $50,000 to $120,000 a year were lost overnight, never to return.
Most devastating are the group of workers not near old enough to collect social security but at the age where positions are being filled by a younger generation. The 50 to 65 year olds who lost jobs, some after years of dedicated service, are more pressed to find work but what can be done if there are just not enough lucrative jobs to go around to save the masses from poverty.
But President Obama is not going to accept defeat lying down—today he was out talking to people reassuring voters that he is concerned about the economy and plans to do something about it.
