China warms up to the US; Hu wants Stable Ties
Chinese policy analysts however observed an unusual trend in Hu's objectives. It was the first time the Chinese leader met a low ranking diplomat. Normally, the presidential protocol meets only diplomats in high rankings.
There has been discord related to trade imbalances between the two countries. The US has been unhappy with the Chinese currency trends and has indirectly scorned the Chinese government of high-headedness. This has led to economic and security exchanges that have detracted efforts of progress.
The new turn of events is seen as a direct effort by the White House to gain a foothold in the American society due to loss of credibility in the Obama administration. The US Government has been blamed for declining economic health and with congressional elections nearing, President Obama might be working hard to make concessions with China on exchange rate policies, especially for the low Chinese currency.
The discussions have been heralded as great milestones in Chino-American relations. Arms and trade discussions are taking shape. Hu insists that since the Obama visit, the relations have remained healthy and on a better path, citing end of confrontational diplomacy.
