Kenyan PM Backs UK Based Lawyers for Reform Bills

This has him at loggerheads with the local professionals, especially law experts who are keen to have the new law implemented under their watch and legal expertise.
The premier was quoted making appeals to development partners to provide professionals to back the implementation of the new law. Speaking to the media, COTU secretary General Francis Atwoli said it was not logical to ask foreigners to come and implement the law whereas Kenyans made the law. It is an obvious insult to commonsense.
Odinga has however defended his appeal for inclusion of foreign experts in the drafting of laws to implement the new law. Today there was uproar when the attorney General announced the inclusion of the UK lawyers on the task force. Mr. Odinga insisted that the foreign expertise was vital to complement the work of the Kenyan legal experts, a fact that does not go down well with many in the Kenyan legal fraternity.
Mr. Odinga said that asking for foreign support in drafting the bills that will oversee the implementation of the new constitution caps inbreeding. He was speaking during a meeting with the National Democratic Institute Board of Directors at his office.
