Nigerian Prison Break Lets out 800 Inmates in Attack
State police commissioner Yar’Adua in a statement confirmed that four people were killed during the Tuesday prison break. The attack on the prison was reported during sunset in Nigeria, a vast country that is heavily ethno-religious. Christians and Muslims have fought in the recent past and many lives were lost in the fights.
The police have confirmed that on Tuesday heavily armed gunmen suspected to be from the hardliner Boko Haram sect attacked a prison in Bauchi area of Nigeria. Hundreds of inmates escaped prison during the attack and hate taken refuge in the high mountains surrounding the pasturelands of the region. Four of the attackers were arrested and with 6 others being seriously injured at a local hospital.
The Bauchi prison has been holding Boko Haram sect members and the sect members might have launched the attack to release their tribesmen. The Muslim sect is blamed on a wave of attacks in July 2009 where lives were lost. Paramilitary police are on guard around the state prison facility.
