To Shop or Not to Shop NBC – That is the Question

Shop NBC
NBC is part owner of a home shopping network known as ShopNBC. The main owner of this network is Value Vision Media which was the name it had before it was launched in 1991. In November of 2000, they signed a trademark License agreement to air the shopping network; however, it wasn’t until 2001 that NBC actually purchased shares in the network.

NBC_500941065.jpgThe headquarters for the network is in Minnesota and serves as competition for similar shopping networks such as HSN, which is the Home Shopping Network. When it just started, Shop NBC was said to have high priced items in comparison to other sellers on similar shopping networks. It is said however that the network had housed high quality designer items that pulled higher prices, especially the designer jewelry.

Shop NBC has however adapted to the economic downturn and the downturn of our pockets and you can find more reasonably priced items that are still of high quality, but may not necessarily be designer items. Aside from the jewelry, you can now find household items and appliances including but not limited to, computers, TVs, bedding, kitchen appliances etc. You can even get skin care product for your face, hand and body.

Many stay – at - home moms and even the average Joe finds themselves buying from online shopping networks, because of the convenience and the interesting yet useful things that can be bought through this medium. Some persons think that it is even better than online purchases because they get a better view of the item before they buy it and the BBB rating for the NBC Shop is satisfactory. Therefore, they can buy with confidence knowing that if an issue should arise it will be dealt with on a satisfactory level. Furthermore they can buy many of there household items in one place.

The Network has been making a lot of changes lately which is said to be due to its sales figures. These changes have included host changes and managerial rearranging. Last year in late 2009, Suzanne Somers was one of the hosts and she had brought her fashion line with her. The latest report in May of this year (2010) is said to be the backing out of NBC Universal, who had a 30% stake in the network. It is understood that NBC Universal was aiming to sell their shares, but a more recent report in June has indicated that NBC Universal is planning to keep their shares until further notice.  The network had planned to undergo rebranding although their license agreement is still active and will be until May of 2011. However it is not clear if that is still the plan considering that NBC has not sold their shares.
