Diplomacy Dead End: Venezuela cuts ties with Colombia
In fact, it is commonplace practice to resolve diplomatic problems through dialogue and improving bilateral relations. Unfortunately, Venezuela, a rising economic giant in South America, decided to do away with diplomacy and instead unceremoniously end relations with Columbia.
In a one-man show, Venezuela leader, Hugo Chavez on Thursday cut the diplomatic ties with Columbia citing excuse such as US using Colombia to undermine Venezuela. The core reason why Chavez severed the ties after pressure mounted on Venezuela to act against leftist rebels who are based in Venezuela. The action came as Colombia showed evidence of Colombian guerillas sheltered in Venezuela. The evidence was inform of videos, pictures and maps showing strategic locations and bases of the guerillas.
In response, Chavez warned that these aggravations could result to war. Colombian Ambassador Luis Alfonso Hoyos provided the Organization of American States in Washington with this evidence a move Chavez felt as severe and aimed at undermining Venezuela. Hovos insisted that OAS investigate Venezuela.
