First Oval Office Address by President Obama
On April 20, 2010, the largest oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico after an explosion on BP horizon drilling rig, which killed eleven workers and injured seventeen more. The gush of oil from the puncture reached about two and half million gallons of oils in a day is being spilled all over the water posing harm to people and to the environment.
President Obama have stated the government’s plan to solve the issue and he assured the nation that he will be doing everything there is to be done and issue whatever necessary resources they have to solve this oil spill problem.
He said that he has already deployed about thirty thousand people working on the job, including professional, scientists, physicist to coast guard to help in fighting this problem. He also said that about 4.5 million gallons of oil have been completely burned off the sea although it is just a couple of day’s worth of oil spill. He ensured the people that he is taking thorough measure to promote a complete clean up have added more resources for assistance.
In one part of his speech the President said that he would make BP company to answer for their neglect by making them pay for the damages on all affected businesses, people and industries. He said that he would have a meeting with the BP CEO Tony Hayward to come up with solution and policy regarding the prevention and stoppage to this tragic event.
At the end of his speech he encouraged the people to use safe energy resources because of the danger that fossil fuel is posing against human and the environment. He encouraged citizens to start planning an innovative of energy resource and to help minimize the country’s dependency to fossil fuel by the use of water operated turbine, solar panels and such.
Oil spill is one of the most destructive elements that needs serious attention, the environment not only suffers from great deal of water contamination it also affects the lives of many sea habitats, it contributes greatly to the destruction of our ecosystem. Lives of many fishermen as well as people living near the shore who depend on sea products as their source of living are greatly affected by this situation . The cleaning process of oil spills is not an easy job and takes months and even years to clear the water so a great reinforcement is necessary when performing this process and to ensure the safety of the waters.
