The History Behind the Cup: Overview of the Past of World Cup
The very first World Cup had taken place in the year 1930 with the country of Uruguay hosting the event. Thirteen countries participated in the tournament. The host country had won the first World Cup after they had defeated Argentina with a score of 4-2. It was a moment in history that added to the fact that the host country had also won the Cup.
The 1934 World Cup was held in Italy. The host country had also won the tournament against Czechoslovakia with a score of 2-1.
The 1938 World Cup was held in France. The previous tournament champions Italy had again prevailed against competitors. They defeated Hungary in the finals with the score of 4-2. After this, the World Cup was not held for a long time because of the war that was going on.
In 1950, the World Cup was held in Brazil. Uruguay again won the tournament against the host country with the score of 2-1.

The 1958 World Cup was held in Sweden. It was won by Brazil against Sweden with the score of 5-2.
In 1962, Chile hosted the World Cup. Again, Brazil won the tournament against Czechoslovakia with the final score of 3-1.
The 1966 England won the world cup gainst Germany with the score of 4-2.
In 1970, World Cup was held in Mexico. Brazil won the tournament against Italy with the score of 4-1.
The 1974 Germany was crowned as the champions. They defeated Netherlands in the finals with the score of 2-1.
In 1978, World Cup was hosted by Argentina. The host country won the tournament defeating Netherlands 3-1.
The 1982 World Cup was held in Spain. It was won by Italy. Italy defeated Germany with the score of 3-1.
The 1986 World Cup took place in Mexico. Argentina won the tournament against Germany with a score of 3-2.
The 1990 World Cup was held in Italy. It was won by Germany defeating Argentina by the score of 1-0.
In 1994, US hosted the World Cup. Brazil defeated Italy to win the cup. The match was tied which was later decided in the penalty shootout. Brazil scored 3 goals to 2 of Italy.
The 1998 World Cup was held in France. It was won by the host defeating Brazil. The final score of the match was 3-0
The 2002 World Cup was hosted jointly by Japan and South Korea. Brazil was triumphant in the tournament against Germany with a score of 2-0.
In 2006, Germany was the country that hosted the World Cup. But during the penalties, Italy scored over Germany. The score was 5-3.
