What is a Jury Consultant?

You might have been in court on the jury. You might have been in court and might just have wondered how the jury is selected. All of these are good things to know. Many of you are just now hearing about what a jury consultant is. Well, a jury consultant is used as an assistant to help lawyers and other administrators of the court add to the jury.

They just don’t help before with the selection process. They have other duties as well. Their job lasts during and after the trial as well. Let’s look at a few of the things that they are responsible for. As we mentioned above, part of their job is to ensure that the right people are picked.

Their main job as a jury consultant is to watch how the jury reacts. They want the best results therefore; they will see how you feel about things. They will see if the lawyer that they are working for is hitting home with the points that he or she is trying to convey to win the case. All of these are essential things for a lawyer. A jury consultant can see how people respond to certain things from the facial expressions that they make all the way to the body language that they use. This tells the lawyer that they aren’t buying or just a little bit further and we think they will be ruling in your favor. This takes years of experience as the jury consultant has to learn how to read this and more. Plus, they have to have knowledge about laws and how a trial works. Normally, they have a four year college degree to do this and maybe more.

They are used after the trial as well. A lawyer might not know where he or she went wrong. That is where a jury consultant comes in. They might say you need to work on this or do that next time. This betters the lawyer’s game so that they can bring justice to their client when a jury is used. It’s hard to make people that you don’t even know to listen to you when evidence is there. However, the more a lawyer knows about what he or she needs improvement on, the better off that lawyer will be and the happier his or her clients will be with them. This might be something you would like to do, however, it does take skill in order for one to do this.
