The classic chicken cordon bleu recipe
Chicken cordon bleu recipe is very easy to make; yet it’s extremely spectacular and very tasty. This classic French dish combines chicken breast, ham and hard cheese, for an unforgettable savor. For the chicken cordon bleu recipe you need boneless and skinless chicken breast, a few slices of smoked ham, a few slices of hard cheese, breadcrumbs, vegetable oil for deep-frying, one or two large eggs, white flour, salt and pepper.
From a large chicken breast you’ll be able to make around six pieces of cordon bleu. Cut the boneless and skinless chicken breast in halves, and slice each half in another three pieces. Take each piece and pound it until it becomes really thin. Season them with salt and pepper on each side. Take some ham slices and arrange them to cover the chicken. On top of the ham, put the hard cheese slices and roll the pounded chicken breast. Secure the rolls with toothpicks. Put the two large eggs in a bowl and mix them with a drop of milk. Take the rolls and put them in the white flour first, then in the battered eggs and finally cover them with bread crumbles. Add some vegetable oil (other than olive oil, which is not suitable for deep-frying) in a large frying pan, to heat up. Put the rolls in the hot oil for about six or seven minutes.
When you take the chicken cordon bleu out, put it on paper towels, to absorb the excess oil. The cheese melts inside the rolls and, with the ham, creates a delicious filling for the chicken breast. You need to serve the chicken cordon bleu hot. If you’re having guests, prepare the rolls and leave them in the fridge. Fry them only minutes before serving them. The perfect side dish for this chicken cordon bleu recipe is a large salad: lettuce, cherry tomatoes, baby spinach and green onions.
You can also prepare some dressing for the salad. Mix two tablespoons of good quality Dijon mustard with sour cream, lemon juice and lemon zest, salt, pepper and parsley leafs. If you want, you can add some crushed garlic to the dressing.
