Bringing Your Bundle Of Joy Home
Making sure you are all set up for the big day home is important. You want to be prepared for the sleepless nights and those extra times when you are cuddling with your newborn.
The number one item you will need is a car seat. Make sure it meets all safety standards. You will want to make sure it has a 5 point harness and good cushion to it. There are 2 types of car seats that are available to you. The first is a car seat that is strictly for newborns to 6 months. The second option for a car seat ranges from newborn to toddler.
Make sure you have a bag ready to go home with. Stock it with baby essentials. Diapers, wipes, 3 sets of clothes, and if you are formula feeding you will want a can of formula. Always pack a first aid kit with the bag. It is best to be prepared in case your car breaks down on the way or any other unforeseen accident.
When you do finally get home you will want to make sure you have a crib for the baby to sleep in. If you don’t have a crib, then it is ok for the baby to sleep in the car seat until you can purchase one. Some doctors actually prefer for a baby to sleep in the car seat. It reduces the risk of choking in case of spit up. Don’t wait too long though. Sleeping in a car seat to long can harm a baby’s back.
If you are breastfeeding then you will not need a lot of bottles. Keep 4 to 8 bottles in the house, in case your milk supply runs dry. Make sure to get stage 1 tops for the bottles. Stage one is directly for baby’s 0-3 months.
Don’t worry about a changing table, high chair, or any of the other big items. People may tell you that you will want to buy them before the baby is born, but it is not crucial that you buy them. You can always change the baby on the bed or clean carpet, and the baby won’t use a high chair until six months. Make sure to give your baby lots of love and attention. The saying ‘all you need is love” can be applied to this situation to, instead of song slogans.
