Once the cost is totaled up for a regular nursery, it can range anywhere from $500 to $1000. That is a lot of diaper money.
If you are on a fixed budget, than it is important to know how to work with the money you have. Here are a few tips, on how you can save a load of cash in nursery expenses.
Buying off brand names can save up to $100 dollars, depending on what you are buying. Higher brands, like Greco, Kids line, and DaVinci, are just a few that are a little high in price.
If you do want a low price, but don’t want to skimp out on the quality of the item, then check online and flyers for deals. Baby’s R Us is having a 50% off sale for anything DaVinci. Stores will normally send you coupons for their products. Keep them in a drawer for a rainy day. You never know when you will need them.
Items at garage sales can be like little treasures that are brought to your attention. You can find cribs, clothes, bedding, bookshelves and any other thing you might want for a nursery. If you are good at searching you can find rare finds. If you choose to purchase a bed at a garage sale, you will want to make sure it has proper crib standards. Check for any loose bolts or broken pieces.
Hand me downs can be a blessing sometimes. When you are strapped for cash, but need the essential items, you may be able to get it all second hand. Check around Goodwill’s, and Salvation Army’s. You can get stuff that is next to brand new at consignment shops. If you know of anyone who has already had a baby, but has a lot of items their child doesn’t use anymore, they may ask you if you would like them. Don’t pass them up. You would be surprised how clean second hand clothes can be.
There are always ways around high priced items like cribs, high chairs, and car seats. If you purchase them other than the store, just be sure everything is up to date on the safety features. Don’t skimp on safety because something is cheap. Remember safety comes first.
