How to Hire an Interior Decorator

If you are new to decorating a home, or don’t know anything about decorating a home, then consider hiring an interior decorator.

Always make sure to do your research when looking for interior decorators. Check your yellow book and ask around, to see who is good and who is not. If you have had friends decorate their house, feel free to ask them who had decorated their house. Check their referrals. The worst thing a person can do is to never check referrals. You want to make sure the interior designer you are thinking of hiring, is capable of doing the type of work you want to be done.

The majority of interior decorators have a portfolio that you can view. Their portfolio should contain a bio, resume, and clips if possible. Set up an interview to meet with them and see what type of person they are. If anything doesn’t seem right, then look into other applicants.

Set up a time for the interior designer to come to your home. Show them the rooms or room that you plan on designing. Get the designers take on what their thoughts are for making over the room. This will allow you to see if anyone matches up with your ideas. You can also tell them what your idea is for the room. See how they would decorate it, while using your chosen theme.

After you have made calls, interviewed many, and sat down to get their vision on the room, the next step is to make a decision and hire someone. Lay out all of your notes and ideas that you kept during the whole process. Look at each designer as an individual and their work that they have accomplished.

The choice is yours on whom you feel is best suitable for the job. Keep in mind your budget when choosing a designer. Know of any upfront costs and agreements, before choosing a designer.  Take your time with it to. Don’t rush the choice and then regret your choice. Interior designers are expensive, so you want to make sure you get what you paid for. Quality is the number one thing you want to keep in mind for your house.
