Weights vs. Resistance Bands
Resistance bands tend to be cheaper than weights. You can purchase one pair of bands that will give you a total body workout for $10 to $15 at any workout outlet store. They come in a variety of colors and weight amounts. The weight amounts normally start out at 5 lbs and go up to 2 lbs.
Resistance bands can be used on the comfort of a yoga mat or even a couch. They come accessible with comfort grip handles made of plastic rubber or soft padding. If you have hip problems or weight restrictions, it might be best to use resistance bands. There will be less of a chance of injury. With resistance bands you can use anything that is found around the house that is safe to incorporate into your workout. This will save you money and time when purchasing other exercise equipment. Because of the low grade weight restrictions you can use resistance bands with more ease. Movements are more controlled then with weights.
If you are looking for more of a challenge, than resistance bands may not be for you. Weights allow you to use a higher form of weight. Weights can become expensive, however. Other accessories might be needed to get a full workout from weights. Such as dumbbells, workout bench, leg curling machines, and other heavy expensive machines. Weights are the most used form of equipment for body builders. If you or someone you know has a weight restriction this may not be the best option for equipment. Weights can be an option though if used properly.
People who have used both forms of equipment may feel that they receive a better workout from using weights resistance bands. It depends on the person, which form of equipment works better.
Always ask a physician what would be better suited for you. Always use proper form for either weights or resistance bands and never rush. Use slow fluid movements to gain muscle and shed the desired excess weight.
