Eczema: Signs & Treatment
Eczema is not contagious, even thought a lot of the current belief says it is. Research has yet to prove that eczema is contagious.
Eczema is mainly caused by a skin inflammation. The skin can become red, dry patches, and leathery looking. Due to excessive scratching sores may form. The skin disorder can flare up around the winter months when dry skin is more likely and then during the summer months lie dormant.
The following are signs you may have eczema:
· Thick skin that cannot be treated with lotion
· Itchy patches of skin that a red
· The patches of eczema may have soars from scratching them all the time
Relief can be found for people with eczema. The following is a list of remedies that may help relieve and cure eczema. It is a combination of home remedies and doctor prescribed medicines:
· Applying dry skin lotion may help. If applied after showering daily and once more during the day it may help to relieve the itch.
· Vaseline may also be a help. Vaseline will help to lock in moisture in the skin, which will help cause the skin to shed and grow naturally
· Hydrocortisone cream can be purchased over the counter. Doctors may prescribe this medication in mild cases
· If lotion, cream, and Vaseline do not help you can try drinking herbal teas. Teas that help promote skin growth may be helpful
· Another option is to file the area that is dry and then apply lotion to the area. Once the lotion is dry apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the surface. Do this every night for about a week. You may or may not notice improvement.
· In some cases the only thing that will work to cure eczema are a heavy prescribed medications, called Protopic or Elidel. These are to be used with caution and adult supervision is required for children who must use the products.
