Surviving a stroke
It is rare when someone younger than 65 suffers a stroke, but it is not unheard of. That is why it is important to know the signs of a stroke and why strokes occur.
Strokes occur due to an interruption or blocking of the blood flow to the brain. It can only be seen using a CAT scan. It can not be seen outside of the human body, other than the warning signs that is accompanied with a stroke. An aneurism may cause a stroke. Bleeding into the brain can also cause a stroke.
The following lists the signs of stroke. If you notice someone or yourself experiencing these symptoms then seek medical attention immediately:
· Numbness in arms, legs, feet, face, or hands. Sometimes a stroke will only affect one side of the body.
· Confusion with speech, trouble speaking, trouble understanding speech
· Trouble with your vision. This could be in one or more eyes
· Severe headaches that have no cause
· Sudden dizziness, trouble walking or moving around, and loss of coordination
Sometimes a stroke will not have any pain associated with it. If you notice you or someone is having these symptoms it is important to call 911. An ambulance will be able to get you to a medical center faster than you can.
If a stroke goes unnoticed or is not treated on time it could become worse. Brain loss can be massive and the symptoms of a stroke could become more pronounced. Such as, slurred speech, limb impairment, unable to walk and others.
Depending on what part of the brain was affected by the stroke will determine what symptoms the patient will have. There are three types of strokes. They are Ischemic, Intrecerebral, and Subarachnoid. They each affect a different part of the brain. The Ischemic stroke is the most common of the three. It affects 80% of stroke patients on a daily basis.
Your physician will do a physical examination and then do a CAT scan if they believe a stroke has been suffered. With some strokes physical therapy can help and bring the patient back to half the mobility rate they had before suffering a stroke.
