Medicines are administered by various different ways. You can give medicine orally, which is safest method. In parental method you give the medicine which is mostly liquid, by injections. In topical administration medicine is only applied on skin. In rectal preparations suppositories are included that are given through rectal route. There are some advantages and disadvantages of each route given: oral route gives more protection but sensitive drugs cannot be given by this route like penicillin. Parental route can be used to give sensitive drugs but aseptic conditions should be maintained. Rectal route is better to get rid of rectal disease but also can cause irritation. Superficial route is safe but less absorption occurs.
