The most common areas where water weight is retained are our legs, ankles, wrists, feet and hands. A sign of water weight is noticeable when these areas begin to swell. Water retention is brought about by several factors. The most common causes would be not eating healthy or drinking enough water.

If you take prescription medication, it is best to consult with a doctor to learn if these prescriptions are one of the causes of water retention.

Increase and maintain your water consumption. This is one of the best things you can give your body and it is all natural. If you are not drinking enough water throughout the day, your body enters a survival mode and retains whatever water your body currently has and you end up feeling bloated. It is not true that if you drink less water gets rid of water weight.

Limit your salt intake. High sodium in your diet causes you to retain unwanted water. Make it a point to always check the nutrition label for the sodium content in your food. Make it a habit to buy low sodium products.

Instead of prescription or over the counter chemical diuretics, consider the use of herbs to flush water from your body.

Eat and maintain a well balanced diet. If your body is not getting the required protein from your diet it can cause your body to retain water. Potassium found in fruits and vegetables can help prevent water retention.

Increase your level of activities. Make it part of your lifestyle to exercise every day. Walking or running can help you lose water weight found in your legs and ankles.

There are many other ways to lose water weight quickly. It is best that you take time to learn what method would be ideal for you and once you have decided on one, stick to it.
