Famous People With Schizophrenia: The Ultimate Role Models For Sufferers
These hallucinations can be very scary and upsetting for anyone diagnosed with the illness and as there is no known cure it can be very difficult for these people ever to feel normal again and have normal jobs and normal relationships again. However, although there is no actual complete cure, there are treatments and medications that can be taken to assist with relieving the symptoms and helping sufferers to lead a more normal life with normal jobs.
There have also, over the years, been a great many famous people diagnosed or suspected of having schizophrenia. This is somewhat inspiring for people with the disease that are struggling to work and simply function on a daily basis due to their illness. People that have dealt with their problems and gone on to live extremely full and in some cases extra special lives as famous researchers or musicians really are the perfect role models for others suffering without any proper direction in their lives.
Syd Barrett was the founding member of the famous 70’s rock bank Pink Floyd. He was also a schizophrenia sufferer. The fact that he battled through his illness and still became one of the most famous public faces in the 1970’s is fantastic and makes you realise just how lucky you are. This is a serious inspiration to any child, adolescent or adult looking for a career in the public eye and being held back because of their illness. This story makes people realise that they can do the things they want to do, and following their dreams need not be put on hold due to a disease.
Another fine example of a famous person with schizophrenia is Andy Goram, the Scottish goalkeeper who played for Rangers and as a sub for Manchester United FC. Andy was diagnosed with schizophrenia and still continued to strive for his dreams and aspirations in football. Footballers have amazing careers and bring in large amounts of money – and nearly every 16 year old boy wants to be one! Andy Goram shows that even battling through with his illness he could still have a great career and everything he could ever want and need – regardless of what the doctors said!
