Learn how to tune a guitar to get the best sound quality from this amazing instrument
Guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments in the world and is enjoyed by people from all walks of life. As the guitar is being used, the quality of it keeps reducing; hence, you will have to ensure that the guitar is tuned from time to time so that you get the best sound quality from it.
While tuning a guitar, you are expected to know some basics such as: there are 6 strings in a guitar - E, A, D, G, B and E. The 6th string, which is the E string that is followed by A, is the thickest or the low sounding string and the 1st string, which is the E string after B is the thinnest and high sounding string. The standard steps to be followed while tuning a string are as follows:
- Tune the 6th string, E so that it is tuned to the 1st E below middle C. This can be done accurately if you have another instrument with you such as the piano so that they are in tune together. Being the thickest string, it is unlikely that this string will be detuned; however you can make it accurate while tuning.
- You will then have to place your left hand just behind the 5th fret on the bottom E to tune the A string. Pick the 5th and 6th strings, keeping your finger on that fret so that the 5th string gets tuned.
- To tune the D note, place the first finger on the left hand just behind the 5th fret on the A string. Now, tune it accordingly.
- Tune the G string now, by placing the first finger of your left hand just behind the 5th fret on the D string. Tune your string to that note.
- To tune to the B string, you will have to left hand just behind the fourth fret and tune it accordingly.
- Lastly, tune the E note, by placing the first finger of your left hand just behind the fifth fret on the B string.
Now that the steps are done, you have completed the tuning of your guitar to get high quality sound from your instrument!
