How to Tell if a Diamond is Real or Fake
It is precious to you, just as much as life is precious to you. These words may seem extreme to a few people, but if you are a true diamond girl than you love your diamonds as much as you love yourself.
Have you ever received a diamond, whether it is a necklace, ring, or bracelet, and you have that feeling that it might not be real? But you don’t want to question it, because you received it from your husband or boyfriend, and you would hate to question their judgment. Still that feeling nags at you like a hair that is out of place, in a perfect photo. Here are some tips and ways you can see if your diamonds are real or imitation diamonds.
The ultimate test to see if a diamond is real is probably the quickest and easiest. Place the diamond, which is in question, on a piece of newspaper. Make sure it is lying on top of writing. If the text is magnified in the diamond, than it is not a real diamond. Real diamonds refract light and cannot magnify words.
The second option is to take it to a jeweler. Make sure to choose a well known and trusted jeweler though. Most jewelers will try to lie and say your diamond is a fake. They do this, because they are worried about paying a large lump sum of cash.
There is also a light test that can be done. If you take a penlight or some form of light and shine it on the diamond you should see a halo around the diamond. If the light reaches through the diamond, and to the other side, than it is a fake. When diamonds have the light test done, they are not supposed to have light go through the diamond.
You can also check the type of metal your diamond is in and the type of back the diamond has. Real diamonds usually have an open back to reflect light better. They also are set in high priced metal and high karat metal.
If you find out your diamond is real what you can do is get it certified. That way if you have to sell it there won’t be any question about its genuineness. No matter what your diamond turns out to be, it's still the same. If it was given in love than that is all that matters.
