Laminated World Maps for Preservation
Aside from the persons who buy the map to observe and study it, there are others who buy the world map and hang it on there walls as a decorative piece; it tends to add a sense of history and class to the décor. There are different types of world maps, wherein the layout or the view is different. While each map will still show you a view of the world, some maps are more in depth than others.
Some world maps will have the outlines of the countries; these tend to be simpler and will provide you with distinct border lines to show you where one continent ends and another begin. Other maps will be more detailed and instead of providing border lines, will attempt to show you images of actual paths, roads and terrains.
The globe on the world maps tend to not always be a perfect circle because it is sometimes stretched or distorted to show you a view of all sides. There are some world map manufacturers who have gone to great lengths to provide you with three different views on one map so as to have a perfect circle. In essence, you will have three circles on the one map showing the world from different angles.
In any case, it doesn’t matter what type of world map you have or the purpose that you have obtained it for, the fact is that it will be in your possession longer if you get a laminated world map. The lamination process covers the paper in a plastic like substance that makes it strong, durable and water resistant. Anyone who has ever used a map knows that water and creases are its biggest enemies and they always seem to find it.
If you carry your map around, if it is stationary but is often used, or even if you have it hung on a wall where it is never used, a laminated map makes more sense. For those persons who carry it around, they will more than likely be folding and unfolding quite often and those creases will eventually remove the ink and then lead to holes in the map. Even if you hang it on your wall, dust will damage it and change its color if it is not laminated. When it is laminated a simple dusting or wipe – off will suffice.
