What Creditors Won't Tell You
With any debt collector, you are not just paying off your old bill, but are also paying a portion of your money to the debt collector. Over half of the American public is unaware of this fact. A debt collector normally receives what could be called a holding fee. It is a fee that is tacked onto your old debt. When figuring a monthly payment plan with creditors they may add the fee in without telling you.
Debt collectors are afraid of the public actually fighting back. If you can only pay a certain amount on a bill each week, the debt collector may try harassing you into paying more. They may threaten legal action, they may say they simply can’t accept that, or they might try to get you to take out a loan for the full amount. Stand your ground and only pay what you can afford to pay. Don’t dig yourself deeper into debt because you can’t pay what they are asking from you. They have to accept the monthly payment you give them.
Another thing not all debt collectors want you to know is that the more details you give about the situation the better for them. Don’t go into detail about how you got in the situation you are in. Don’t tell them how much you make or why you couldn’t make payments on the previous bill. If you do you might just give them information they can use against you.
We all see creditors as scary and pushy. Remember they are supposed to be pushy and rude. It is how they get people to pay them. Don’t let them scare you into paying more than you can handle. Remember it is just money you are dealing with. You only have so much to give. Money can be replaced. Keep calm and make your payments on time. This will keep creditor calls to a minimum.
